Steven Universe is a real Gem!

Image
I love Steven Universe. It's the greatest show on earth! It's a show about these magical beings called gems, that have powers related to the gems they are made of (like Pearl, Ruby, Garnet Amethyst etc) and Steven Universe, who is a half human-half gem boy. They live great adventures trying to protect the earth from rogue tainted gems and gems from Homeworld, who wish to take revenge on earth and Rose Quartz, who led a rebellion on earth. What the homeworld gems don't seem to understand is that Rose Quartz gave up her existence in orther to give birth to Steven. As for Steven, he is troubled because the responsibility over his shoulders forces him to mature way too fast for his age, and he feels everyone expects him to be like his mom. But what I really like about this show is that it is a show about love and consciusness of the others and oneself, acceptance to differences and how we deal with our feelings. The show was created by Rebecca Sugar, who also writes a

I Was Curious About Using Guitar Pedals For Mixing

Image
I was testing what would happen if I used my Orange Micro Crush  (I really wanted to link this to Orange's Micro Crush page, but the website is down) as an Insert effect with may audio interface and Ableton's External Instrument effect and suddenly something hit me: what would happen if I used guitar pedal effects for mixing. Well, let's hear Dave Pensado talk about it! The possibilities in mixing are simply endless. God I love this thing! Know what? I guess I should write something for Musicblip in regards to this!

A Masterpiece: Harvest, by Neil Young

Image
I was looking for some music to listen to while working somethings out over Hangouts with Tyler, from Musicblip and Dev3lop, andI just got to listen to this record again after a few years I heard it the first time. It just ages so well and grows with you! The cover of "Harvest", by Neyl Young Every little detail is golden: from the very intimate vocals to all of the small imperfections and noises that were embraced in such a way that made it so alive and real. My favourite song by far is "Harvest". I love the arrangement, the vocals and the sheer groove of the song. It's pouring so much emotion out, that makes you want to be in there, in the room where the recording was made. The album is, in a sense, much like "The Little Prince", by Antoine de Saint-ExupĂ©ry. Every time you give it another go, you find something new, another perspective, another story. It matures with you. Thank you Neil Young for this Masterpiece.

Music Production School is Great

Image
I have just enrolled for Audio and Recording music school. This is my first week of class and I decided to talk about how great music school is. First of all, it's important to be in touch with others who study and teach music. It's definitely an emotional boost to see your peers going through the same challenges you are. I really recommend it to anyone who's serious about it. Not only in regards to music production, but to any music skill at all. What ultimately makes someone better at music is their persistence as well as their connections to other musicians. The first speaks for itself. The latter is about relating to othre's life experiences, techiniques, choices and overal misic abilities. My point is that music is a collective creation. Not that you necessarily must do it with others every single time. But its very existence is only due to collective creation. So it only makes sense to trade knowledge with others. As an example, i can mention my experie

Hate Brazilian Internet Service Providers

Image
Well, guess what… As I am writing this I currently have absolutely no internet. What a bother! I just got back from music school and I was planning on updating Musicblip ’s Ello account, but that will have to wait. You know how it goes: calling the internet service provider, which is as good as a cat trying to NOT concentrate on a red laser dot, getting them to fix the issue, and it will take what? A whole day before they come down and get it sorted. Bummer. I simply do not understand why Brazilian internet providers are so terrible. It’s not like we don’t have options to choose from. There are many different companies that offer the service, trying to compete for costumers over price, bonus features etc, but what you get is: buy a 15MBps to use only 2 or 3. Really, when will these companies up their game? We pay a LOT of money for terrible internet and the service simple does not improve. Ok, let’s get down to calling them. Oh and there’s that: you call them for anything at all

How to Produce Music

Image
As I mean to imply by the title of the blog, producing music is easy. It should be as easy as picking up an instrument, writing a song, recording it and uploading it to your favourite streaming website. Maybe you want to make EDM so what you need are some synthesizers or samples. Or sampled synthesizers, like the ones you can get from Musicblip ! In either case you are going to need 2 things. A sound card (your computer has one, I'm sure), or an audio interface, like those popular models made by focusrite , and a some typo of software that will allow you to record and edit such recordings. When it comes to soundcards and audio interfaces, you can easily do some search around and find something that suits your needs. Are you recording high quality vocals and a guitar? maybe 2 inputs are enough for you. Are you recording a full drum kit with many mics? Perhaps 4 to 8 inputs will do. Heck, if you just want to jot down some quick ideas, your laptop or mobile mic might jus
